GROUPS & COMMITTEES

There are many different ways in which members and friends of St. Stephens may be involved in the life of the parish. If you are interested in participating in any of the following groups and committees, please contact the church office at 734-284-8777 or frbruce@ststephensonline.com.

ADMINISTRATIVE MINISTRIES

The Finance Committee concerns itself with all matters affecting the fiscal policies and financial affairs of the church. This committee also reviews our investments and monitors the performance of the portfolio managers for the church's trusts.

The Vestry is the governing body of the parish. Members are elected at the annual meeting and serve a three-year term.

WORSHIP MINISTRIES

Acolytes serve at worship services by leading the procession; lighting the candles; carrying crosses, banners, and torches; and assisting the clergy at the altar. This group is open to youth age 11 (or grade 5) and above.

Altar Guild members prepare the altars and sanctuaries for all services. They also set the table for special services such as weddings and funerals.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers read lessons, lead prayers, and administer the chalice. This is open to confirmed adults and youth over age 16.

Lay Eucharistic Visitors deliver the Eucharist to those who cannot attend the worship services due to illness or other causes.

Lay Readers (Lectors) read lessons at Sunday services. This ministry is open to all who have been baptized.

Worship Committee members work in conjunction with the choir director to select music for the upcoming services. This ministry is open to anyone with an interest in music.

Evangelism & Outreach

Gifts for Life.

In conjunction with the Episcopal Relief & Development, the children of St. Stephens collect their weekly offering to purchase livestock for needy villages. To view the livestock purchased to date, you may visit our Church School page.

CROP Walk

Volunteers work together each year to raise funds for the annual CROP walk. CROP walk involves neighbors walking together to take a stand against hunger in our world. Together we raise awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as local hunger-fighting. The CROP walk takes place each spring, and volunteers are needed to walk, raise funds and work the event. For more information how you can become involved in this event, you may contact Sean Remisoski.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Members volunteer to craft shawls for us to bless and pass on to those in need of their prayerful comfort. Those interested in gathering as a group, or creating on your own, please contact Sharon Dmitruchina at (313) 382-6451. This is a wonderful way to spread God's healing love. The prayer shawl ministry is also soliciting donations of yarn for their projects.

Fellowship Ministries

Episcopal Church Women (ECW) is open to all women of the parish and involves fellowship, education, worship, and service. The ECW host our annual Rummage Sale each April, and often provide financial support to the Children's Ministry and special projects throughout the parish. The group meets as needed.

The Men's Club is open to all men of the parish and involves fellowship and service. The Men's Club Hosts our annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper & Spaghetti Dinner each year. The Men's Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall.
